Background Information
Raised in Balamb Town, Rikriel's younger days were filled with boredom. He was a normal young child, but the only things available for him to do were to either stay inside, or go to the Harbour. It was at the Harbour that Rik first met the person who would show him how to have fun. Zacorze Deenan lived only two houses away from Rik's own, and his time was spent playing pranks on the Balamb community. For a while, Rikriel joined Zac in his activities, and he began to really enjoy himself. However, he remained the innocent young boy, and never wanted to play a prank on his own family.
So it came as a surprise when, on another day, his sister came to his room and told him that she knew about his pranks. She exclaimed that she would go and tell their mother the truth about him, unless Rik obeyed her and didn't tell of Fiana's own actions. And it was with this that Rikriel was silenced, believing that if his mother knew, she would disown him, like when his father left the home. What followed was just under a year of psychological bullying. She would pass the blame onto Rik, for everything that happened in the house, and she would constantly tease and insult him whenever their mother's back was turned.
Rikriel's mother, Lonwyn, could be described as an emotionally unstable woman. Having to raise two young children alone, not being able to have a proper relationship with her husband, and the isolation of living in such a small town had taken it's toll on the relatively young woman. She believed that, as the older and male of her two children, Rikriel should look after and take care of his sister, whom she thought of as vunerable. Rikriel occaisonally heard his mother talking downstairs, passionately exclaiming her desire to just leave the children for a while and go travelling, go and live her life as she wanted.
After the year of percieved torment, another followed in which Rikriel spent most of his time in his room - where he built his weapon. He was now far less social and preferred to come down only when necessary. At 15, Rik had changed dramatically into the opposite of what should be regarded as a boy of such an age. He no longer thought that he got as much attention from his mother, and he began to believe the insults that Fiana told him. She would call him pathetic, a freak, a waste of human life. She would regularly try to stop any new things Rikriel tried to do, saying that he had no chance of succeeding. She would fake tears to see Rik punished. She made Rik ashamed of the things that he would normally do, like reading or cooking, and stopped him from getting to know any people in the town. In all reality, Rik didn't want to face her anymore, nor his mother whom he now felt guilty for not telling her the truth himself.
When the oppurtunity to enrol in Balamb Garden next came around, Rikriel jumped at the chance. He could start again, without discrimination or bullying. However, when he joined, he found that his new responsibility combined with a lack of self esteem failed to change his attitude. Also, he was made to take extra classes to catch up with all of the students that had enrolled earlier. Now, the prospect of starting again rose up connotations of isolation and a responsibility he had never before been forced to handle.
It would be a certain fact that Rikriel has been overworked compared to some other students. Being 15 when he joined meant that he was forced to take extra classes to compensate for those who had joined at a younger age. Because of his late joining age, his age for taking the final SeeD exam has been postponed until now.
Personality and Analysis
Rikriel has changed a lot over his lifetime, and even during his time at Garden. As a little boy, and friend of Zacorze, Rikriel's dominant traits were curiosity and an active imagination. Living in Balamb Town, Rikriel always tried to find ways to entertain his curiosity. Pranks were his main entertainment. The thrill of seeing the consequences befallen on his victims far outweighed the desire to see others being deliberately hurt. Only when he realised that the pranks were, in fact, too real for him did he want to stop. His mother was always overplaying bad deeds to deter Rikriel from ever doing them, and this drove him to his personal rebellion, but also made him an unknowing hypochondriac.
With the pranks, his sister finally had the confidence to enact her resentment towards her brother, and her threats made Rikriel more cautious, fearful and over-analytical. As a hypochondriac, Rikriel overplayed his sister's actions and felt that he was forced into his room. This is where he found books as a mild cure for his curiosity. He read a lot of his father's notes, not really understanding them but liking them all the same. Seeing SeeD Cadets fighting monsters in the plains from his bedroom window fascinated him, and he found one of his father's old weapons magazines. Picking random crafting items, Rikriel designed a chain linked dual sword weapon, and bought the needed equipment, having to resort to lying to get the parts.
The next few months were spent building, and constantly refining, the weapon for use. He did so in secret, and never tested the weapon. His mother found out about the weapon not long before he started making it, as while Rikriel kept it a secret at home, he would reveal all of his intentions in letters to his father, which Lonwyn would read before sending. She confronted him quickly, and he grew more paranoid, resorting to writing and posting further letters himself.
Home life wasn't particularly good, with the submissive Rikriel always playing into his sisters hands, and never voicing his own opinion. Feelings of inadequacy resulted, and also his cowardice became apparent.
At Balamb Garden, he started off as the self doubting, critical, neurotic hypochondriac, and to some extent he remains the same. Latching onto any semblance of kindness, he was very trusting, however his paranoia increased vastly due to Zantet, in his opinion, faking a friendship. His father's letters made him desire to be ambitious and adventurous, but also bound to sacrifice willingness for duty. Years of pent up anger began to show itself in Deling, through sudden bouts of internal rage. This is especially true when people complain about their situation, as Rikriel truly believes that he is "unique in his disaster" and that no other person has the right to believe the same. Through Zantet, he has begun to blame himself less and blame others more, and so is growing in self confidence. his opinions on what others think of him, however, is a completely different matter.
Rikriel has just started to recognise his desire for control. Feelings of oppression have meant that Rikriel now feels that he deserves to have the same right as his sister and Zantet. As such, he is growing to be quite selfish. These traits mean that friendships will soon become a matter of practicality. Rikriel will strive to analyse the worst of peoples opinions of him, and feels that if he can use them to get his own way then at least something positive will come out of the relationship before his 'friend' finally disowns him.
He enjoys reading books, in which he escapes to a different reality. Rik is easily offended, so much so that he will often be saddened by what he believes people see and think of him, regardless of what they actually think. He wishes that his past could have gone differently, and reflects occasionally on what could have been, had he not began a friendship with Zacorze.
Rik has always been unsure how to act should someone be kind to him, and his initial reactions to kindness are scepticism and doubt - however he does get comfortable with kind people after a while.
Limit Break Information
Limit break 1
Thrustaeviso - Weak/Moderate Damage , Single Enemy Rik runs up to the enemy and impales him with both blades. He then jumps very high up into the air and turns around, amid a glowing apparition of a Thrustaevis doing the same action around him. The force of the jump creates a blast of dust at ground level, emanating from the spot of the jump. At the top of the jump there is a pause, before Rikriel flings the monster off his blades and kicks him towards the floor. The apparition disappears, and he then backflips in the air and lands; his opponent not landing so gracefully.
Limit break 2
Rexaurud - Moderate Damage , casts Regen , Single Enemy, then All Enemies Rikriel takes a running approach to a single enemy and jumps into the air. At the top of his jump, time slows down and a glowing apparition of a T-Rexaur appears around him. Time returns to normal, and Rikriel begins to swing upwards and downwards, while the apparition of the T-Rexaur bites down on the enemy repeatedly. Rikriel then skids in mid-air off to one side of the enemies and casts Regen on himself, before sliding back through the air with a big swing that slices all enemies - in slow motion at the end. Time returns to normal and Rikriel lands. During the attack, the glowing apparition tail whips the enemies, before disappearing.
Limit break 3
Marlbora - Moderate Damage, casts three random status effects, All Enemies Rikriel jumps up and freezes in mid air. He arches backwards as a glowing apparition of a Marlboro appears and does the same, charging for an attack. At the instant the Marlboro releases its breath, two static-like clones materialise either side of Rikriel and they all shoot through every enemy at a very high speed - following the breath. Rikriel then quickly transports to his original position. Inflicted Status changes have a very low chance of being positive effects.
Limit break 4
Crystal Pillar - High / Critical Damage, casts Slow, Bio and Confuse, All Enemies Rikriel widens his stance. Starting with a step, Rikriel runs at speed on a criss-cross route through and around all enemies. Meanwhile, glowing apparitions of monsters - attacking the enemies - occur. These include an attacking Wendigo, Forbidden, Ruby Dragon, Behemoth and Imp. Each monster attacks once and disappears, before Rikriel runs quickly back to his starting position, freezes and turns. A huge crystal stalagmite shoots from the ground, encompassing all enemies. A gigantic circle of light appears in the atmosphere and a large yellow beam shoots down, covering and shattering the pillar.
Weapon Variants
Edgeblades
This weapon can be thought of as a pair of nunchakus with a small blade at the end of each handle. Impractical when used similar to nunchakus, instead the weapon is to be used like a sword - and to be swung in various arcs. The chain can also be used for strangulation, and other moves may of course be devised for the Edgeblades.
Rikriel's first weapon, he built the Edgeblades from various parts bought at the Balamb Garden Junk Shop. Simply a pair of red handles, and metal blades, the weapon is nothing magnificent to behold.
The Lunar Cry
This weapon is noticeably different in looks, to it's predecessor, and is a vast improvement in terms of quality. Built to specification by the Deling City Junk Shop, the handles are longer and thinner, and the blades are also lengthened and made narrower than before. The handles are now wood, with a dark blue leather covering. The weapon travels faster through air, and has an improved reach.
