Background Information

Jacob has had a decent life up until he decided to enrol at Balamb Garden. The worst thing he had experienced was when his mum had died. He had been 8 when he had learned that the boat she was sailing on to return from a business trip to Deling City had been heavily damaged in a storm and sank before it could reach the Balamb Port, and there were apparently no survivors.

From the age of 12, he worked part-time in the local bookshop to help his dad with the family finances, as he alone wasn't able to earn enough to keep the two of them financially stable. This is probably where his near obsession with reading originated, which requires him to wear glasses as he can't tolerate contact lenses.

History at Balamb Garden

Appearance

Jacob is a relatively tall and slim young man, who is in decent shape due to regular swimming. His short light brown hair and hazel coloured eyes are not very distinctive, and therefore allow him to blend into any crowd with little difficulty.

He isn't a keen follower of fashion, and is usually seen in plain blue, grey, or green coloured clothes.

Analysis

Jacob is a quiet individual who likes to keep to himself, and is initially shy around people until he gets to know them. He considers loyalty and patience to be very important traits in himself and in others, but is slow to trust people.

Jacob has spent most of his young life learning various sciences, holding a part time job in a book shop, and training with a bow. When he turned 16 he decided that he wanted to join Balamb Garden, as the money earned as a SeeD would be a great help to his dad, once he graduated. His prior training plus his excellent hand-to-eye coordination resulted in him continuing to use a bow as his weapon of choice.

Jacob is an avid reader of history and chemistry. He has a skill for the latter which often results in him making numerous chemical concoctions for his arrows, which can have a multitude of side effects.

Combat Data

Due to using a bow as his weapon, Jacob often attacks from a distance, and aim for the weak points on an opponent. He will, where possible, Scan an opponent before making any attacks.

Limit Break Information

Note: The number of arrows in the cluster will increase as Jacob gains more combat experience regardless of what level Limit Break is used.

Level 1: Cluster Arrow

[Learned]
Jacob launches multipe arrows at his opponents, in clusters of 3.

Level 2: Elemental Cluster Arrow

[Not Learned]
This is similar to Cluster Arrow, but this time the arrows will have an element attached.

Level 3: Status Cluster Arrow

[Not Learned]
This is again similar to Cluster Arrow, but with Status effects on the arrows.

Level 4: Cluster Barrage

[Not Learned]
Jacob launches two or more cluster arrows at his opponents, depending on the battle situation and his arrow supply. This is simply an increase in cluster arrows, so can be used in conjunction with any prior Limit Break Level.

Weapon Variants

Libran (Basic Bow)

Jacob's bow was a gift from his dad when he started learning how to use one. It is a basic bow, but has a pale green colouring on the limbs, eerily similar in shade to his eyes.

Miasma

Once Jacob enrolled at Balamb Garden, he realised that his Libran bow wouldn’t survive the frequent and harsh use that regular battle would inflict upon it, so he bought himself a new one. This model is known as “Miasma”, and has a weak Water element junctioned to it. It also has the ability of being able to compact into a portable form, making it easier to carry and (where necessary) conceal.

The Elemental Series

Miasma is from a series of nine. Each type has a different elemental component fitted to it, which is required to upgrade & change the weapon. In order to change back to a previous model, the relevant components need to be fitted to the frame again.

Note: None of the Elemental Series bows are stronger than any other, the only difference depends on any elemental weakness of an enemy.

Fire Orange/Red Corona 12 x M-Stone Piece/4 x Magic Stone/2 x Wizard Stone, 4 x Screw & 4 x Fire Fang/2 x Inferno Fang

  • Some components of different quality can be used in different quantities in place of others. However, the total components must be of one type, e.g. Magic Stones can't be used with a Wizard Stone.

Totus Elementum - Ultimate Weapon

Numerous Weapons Monthly magazines contain reference articles to a rare bow that has the ability to channel any element the wielder wishes using a device based on Ancient Centran technology. This device can theoretically be fitted to any bow of the Elemental Series, and allow the wielder to then change the element used inside the frame at the flick of a switch. For this reason, the Totus Elementum can only use plain arrows, as the elemental charge will pass from bow frame to arrow when the two touch.

Additionally, the device has the side-effect of changing the colour of the bow frame, so the wielder can see what element he or she is about to use. This would be of great tactical advantage in large scale battles.

Jacob has been searching for the known components listed in the magazines in the hope that he can obtain such a device for his bow in the near future. It is highly likely that the device in question could be found/assembled in Esthar, given their technology level in comparison to the rest of the world.
